FISHING MISSISSIPPI
FALL SEASON
Water level 225.49, falling 0.1 ft/day, muddy to murky. For water level information,
call (662)226-5911 or check http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/riverstage/bullet.txt Several ramps
are underwater and/or you launch off the road or parking lot. Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581
reports crappie are scattered in all the water. Best luck has been slow trolling jigs and/or
minnows or crankbaits 18 ft deep in creek mouths of the main lake. Fish worms or stink baits in
the rivers or creeks for catfish. Largemouth bass have been biting about any lure around flooded
shallow cover, but look for clearer water in coves near the dam. The lake was 25.8 ft above rule
curve Monday. See http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/offices/ed/edh/plots/grenplot.jpg Fall
drawdown has resumed with a target elevation of 193 ft by December 1. Expect high water
releases this winter.
The spillway had one gate open 10.0 ft (3400 cfs) Monday. Best luck has been for
catfish (mostly blues) on worms or cut shad. White bass averaging a pound have been biting
small crankbaits or jigs. Best luck on crappie lately has been on minnows fished in the old river
run out of the fast current.
The daily creel limit for crappie on Grenada Lake is 20 per person. The minimum
length limit for crappie is 12 inches. Anglers fishing Grenada Lake may use no more than 3
poles per person. The 12 inch length limit does not apply to the reservoir spillway, but the
spillway has a 20 crappie creel limit.
