BEE LAKE
The crappie bite has been fair to good recently at Bee. Most people fishing for crappies off the bridge are fishing in water 5-8' deep. Bait of choice is live minnows. Most people catching 5-10 a day. Two big crappies over 2 lbs in size were caught in the past week on minnows. Minnows are available at Bell's Store (662-235-5930) in Thorton right on the lake.
Bass fishing is pretty good also. Most anglers are targeting the docks or areas with vegetation and/or other cover such as logs. Try flipping a jig and pig or fishing a texas rigged plastic worm or lizard underneath and around the docks. Try white or light colored spinnerbaits or crankbaits along the edges of vegetation and near shallow water drop offs.
Water level at Bee Lake has been falling over the past few days and is just over 7 feet. Water temperature is down to 59 degrees Farenheit. The water has cleared up nicely and is not very muddy at the current time.
Go to the USGS website http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ms/nwis/uv/?site_no=330359090194135 to get information on water level, water temperature and visibility from the USGS gauge on the bridge at Bee Lake.
Delta Wildlife Foundation has worked with local landowners to install 37 sediment retention structures to reduce erosion. This will reduce the sediment inputs into the lake, which should increase water clarity and benefit the fishery.
Bee lake is located about 20 miles north of Yazoo City on US Route 49E. A fee ramp is available for use at Bells Store.
