Main Lake - 11/19/2009

UPPER MAIN LAKE:

Excellent crappie reports from the old river lake beds (Long, Saddlebags, Oil Well ...) and from the edge of the river channel. When wind allows access to the open water, limits can be caught by fishing 12-14 feet deep adjacent to cover. Bass are biting good in the shallow vegetation in the pockets on the Rankin County side of the lake . The shad have migrated back into the shallows and the bass have chased them in there. Same patterns that are working in the pads above Highway 43 (see above) are working on the upper main lake. Catfish are biting good on deep trotlines.

LOWER MAIN LAKE:

The bass fishing reports have been better than expected this week, although the number of fishermen is down. Had good reports from three boats that worked the riprap hard from Yacht Club around to Red Dot Road and behind the Breakers. They also reported good catches around boat piers in the harbors. The rest reports were from boats that worked the rocks on a parallel path casting lipless crankbaits and jerkbaits tight to the rocks. Crappie fishing's slow, but catfish have been fair.
