Upper Lake and River - 11/19/2009

ABOVE HIGHWAY 43:

Even though there's still a lot of current in the river, bass fishing has improved significantly over the past week. Kentucky spotted bass have become more predictable on deep points and cuts, and largemouth have moved into the pads in the coves and backwaters immediately adjacent to the river. Frogs, buzzbaits, swimming jigs and spinnerbaits - all the usual suspects - are producing bites. The topwater bite will slow down if the surface temperature continues to fall into the low 50s. It was 58 on Monday. Crappie bite is good in eddy water on deep cover.

The following rules apply to boat and bank anglers fishing below lowhead dam and within the "No Wake Zone/Idle Speed Only" area.

Anglers may use only one pole or rod at a time.

Artificial lures with no more than three treble hooks no larger than # 2 may be fished any time of the year.

From December 1 until the last day of February: Anglers may use no more than 2 single hooks no larger than #2. Hooks must be secured at least one inch apart. No bare or baited treble hooks are allowed.

From March 1 until November 30: Anglers may use no more than 2 single hooks of any size. Hooks must be secured at least one inch apart. No bare or baited treble hooks are allowed.
