Lake Ross Barnett - 11/9/2009

Water temperature is less than 70 degrees and the visibilty is over 40 inches. A 12.9 pound lunker was caught this spring on a Bomber crankbait.

BASS anglers are catching lots of small bass. Best bait is plastics (worms and lizards). Some anglers are having good luck early and late fishing topwater.

BREAM are biting good with most showing up early in the morning and just before dark. They have moved a little deeper so use crickets or redworms in water 4-6 feet deep tight-lining from the bank.

CRAPPIE reports were few in number this week. Fish with minnows in water over 10 feet deep.

CATFISH bite is primarily at night. A 20.35 pound channel cat was caught on a chicken liver in June this year.

Camping is available for overnight stays. No reservations needed.

A depth/bottom map is available showing locations of fish attractors and other lake features. The link to our lake map page is:

Several fish attractors have been established in the lake to create fish habitat and a hot spot for anglers. Approximately 150 Christmas trees were sunk in January 2007 around marked fish attractor bouys. They provide great habitat for all species of fish. These attractors have been marked with buoys for anglers to easily find and are loaded down with Christmas trees.

GPS coordinates for the fish attractors are:
