JP Coleman/Pickwick Lake - 11/16/2009

PICKWICK LAKE/J. P. COLEMAN: Pickwick Lake elevation: 412 ft and falling. The water temps are in the low 60s. The bass bite is starting to slow down. The bass have moved into the backs of the hollows and are feeding up for the winter but can be tough to catch. Schooling reports have been fairly common lately, especially in the afternoons. The hollows from JP Coleman to Bear Creek have been popular areas. Shallow crankbaits, rattletraps and topwater baits are all productive right now. The smallmouth bite is hot right now on the upper end of the lake towards Wilson dam. The crappie reports are fair, but water temps need to drop more for the crappie bite to pick up. Several anglers are hitting Yellow Creek right now with some success. Most catfish reports have been out on the river channel near Yellow Creek and Indian Creek. Some big blue cats in the 20 to 30 lb range are being caught, but dont expect a lot of bites. Best bait has been cut shad.
