Trace State Park - 11/16/2009

TRACE STATE PARK: Best reports over the last week are from the crappie anglers. Crappie anglers are hitting the creek channels and standing timber with success. Crappie are suspended in 10 ft of water in these areas. Both jigs and minnow are catching fish. Bream anglers are reporting fair catches off the points and in the coves in 5-10 ft of water. Tight-lining grubs, wigglers or crickets, as well as casting beetlespins have all been productive techniques. The bass bite is fair but a few quality sized fish are being reported along with good numbers of 11 to 13 inch bass also showing up. Most bass are positioned around points and coves in 5 to 8 ft of water. The best baits have been swimbaits, jig-n-pig combos and t-rigged plastic worms. Since cooler weather is expected later on in the week, finesse tactics might be another option for those post-frontal conditions.
