FISHING MISSISSIPPI
FALL SEASON
Water level 228.83, falling 0.1 ft/day, muddy to murky. For water level information,
call (662)562-6261 or check http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/riverstage/bullet.txt The lake is
high but falling slowly. Several ramps are underwater and/or you launch off the road or parking
lot. Best luck for crappie lately has been slow trolling jigs and/or minnows in 12+ ft of water.
Fish worms or stink baits in the river and creek channels for catfish. Most fishing lately has been
for bass because they have been shallow and biting. Fish spinnerbaits or soft plastics in coves
around shallow cover in areas where the water is fairly clear. The lake is 16.4 ft above rule
curve. See http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/offices/ed/edh/plots/arkaplot.jpg . Fall drawdown
has resumed with a target of 210 ft by December 1. Expect high water releases this winter.
The spillway had one gate open 7.0 ft (2150 cfs) Monday. Few reports. Best luck
down here should be for catfish using about any bait. Try Elbow Creek for crappie.
The daily creel limit for
crappie on Arkabutla Lake is 20 per person. The minimum length limit for crappie is 12 inches.
Anglers fishing Arkabutla Lake may use no more than 5 poles
per person. The 12 inch length limit does not apply to the reservoir spillway, but the spillway has a 20 crappie creel limit.
