Wildlife and Wildlife Rehabilitation in North Mississippi
Jackson - On Saturday, October 17, at 2 p.m. Nancy Fachman of Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc., and Brad Holder a Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks wildlife biologist, will present a program at the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and Visitor Education Center. Fachman will discuss the work being done by wildlife rehabilitators in northern Mississippi and Holder will provide information on the habitat and behavior of area wildlife.
MWR is an all-volunteer, registered non-profit dedicated to caring for orphaned and injured native wildlife species in Mississippi. Licensed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, MWR covers 24 counties and is the only licensed facility for wildlife rehabilitation in northern Mississippi.
MWR's work is endorsed by the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC), the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA) and the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology.
Fachman has been a member of MWR since June 2000. She is a full-time volunteer wildlife rehabilitator, educator, and is a member of the Executive Board.
As a rehabilitator, she cares for orphaned, injured or ill indigenous wildlife (including mammals, birds and reptiles) with the goal of returning them to their native habitat. As an educator, she goes to schools, community groups and festivals with programs geared towards the appreciation and conservation/preservation of our wildlife in their natural environment. Her programs, which include non-releasable live educational animals, cover a variety of topics.
Fachman, a Water Valley resident, majored in zoology at Memphis State University.
