MDWFP now accepting reservations for September 26th
Ecology and Wildlife Field Day at Yockanookany WMA
Jackson – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is pleased to announce the first Wildlife Management Area Ecology and Wildlife Field Day at Yockanookany WMA near Kosciusko, Mississippi. Reserve the date of Saturday, September 26th from 9am-1pm for a day filled with information about the public wildlife management area, its wild inhabitants, and management techniques that MDWFP employs to manage the area.
The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about the Wildlife Management Area, various aspects of wildlife/habitat management, and how MDWFP goes about managing the area and why.
MDWFP biologists will lead a short hike and also transport participants by trailer through portions of the management area to discuss various aspects of the area and its wildlife. Topics to be covered include: food plots, importance and use of buffers and edges for wildlife, fire management, forestry practices, nuisance/exotic animals and plants, fishing in small MS streams, wood duck ecology and banding, deer and turkey management techniques and research, using hunting as a management tool, and much more……
Lunch and drinks will be provided for an on-site picnic style lunch. The food and drinks have generously donated by the following supporters: Attala County Co-op, Sunflower Food Stores of Kosciusko, and Leonard’s Soggy Bottom.
Since participation is limited to 50 registrants, reservations are required for this event.
