Lake Lowndes State Park provides a complete recreational facility for individuals, families, and groups to enjoy the park. Located on a beautiful 150-acre lake, the park offers unlimited opportunities for fishing and camping, softball, tennis, softball, and other organized sport well as complete facilities for its. Mississippi University for Women (The "W") and Mississippi State University (MSU) are just a short drive to the west, making Lake Lowndes State Park the perfect place to stay during a football weekend at MSU or while visiting either campus.

Developed Camping
The 50 lakeside sites are available for RV camping that features water, electricity, and sewer.  Each site has a picnic table and a grill. A comfort station that features hot showers, washers and dryers, vending machines, and a sitting area is located inside the campground.  A central sewage dumping station is located beside the developed camping area before you turn into the campground. All campsites are available for advance reservations.

 Tent Camping
A scenic wooded area is available for tent camping. Water and restrooms are located near the primitive camping area.  All fires must be inside the designated fire ring.







Vacation Cabins

Lake Lowndes State Park features four cabins that sleep 6 people.  Each cabin is equipped with bed and bath linens and basic kitchen utensils. All cabins are furnished with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, as well as, a bathroom with a shower. Each cabin features a fireplace, deck, grill, central heat and air conditioning and patio furniture, and affords a lovely view of Lake Lowndes. A boat dock is also available for the cabin guests.

Manufactured Home
Lake Lowndes State Park features a manufactured home that has three (3) bedrooms with a double bed in each.  It accommodates six (6) people.  MH-1 has a living area with a couch, lounge chair, table, and TV.  It also has a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, oven/stove, cookware/utensils, and a dining table with chairs.  The home also has a washer and dryer for your convenience.  A picnic table and grill are located outside with a beautiful view of Lake Lowndes.  MH-1 is also handicapped accessible with a built on deck to overlook Lake Lowndes.

Day Use
A day-use entry fee is charged on a per vehicle basis.  The Park is open every day of the year.  The Park Office is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.  For more information on Lake Lowndes State Park, please contact the Park Office at 662-328-2110.

 

   

Equestrian Trail and Mountain Bike Trail

Seven miles of equestrian trails are available for horse lovers. The trail covers creek crossings and hilly terrain. A parking area is located at the start of the trail.  You must bring your own horse and show proof of the Negative Coggins before riding the trail.

Visitor/Activity Building
The Visitor's Center houses the multi-sports center featuring indoor tennis, basketball, volleyball, badminton courts and a game room with pool and ping pong tables.  The game room also features a snack machine and drink machines to quench your thirst.  Also located inside the lodge is a meeting room that can accommodate approximately 75 people. There is also an amphitheater located behind the visitor's center. For more information or to reserve, please contact the park office (662) 328-2110.

Card Room seats 20 people--Features a den type setting with couch and chairs, 3 card tables, and a fireplace

Room seats 50-75 people--Features:  a kitchen that includes a counter for work space, sink, and a microwave; and tables and chairs 




Gym
Lake Lowndes offers an indoor Basketball Gym/Volleyball Court located inside the Multi-Sports Center, which is the Visitor/Activity building.  The basketball gym can be reserved per hour or a fee is charged per person to use the gym when it is not reserved.  The gym is opened from 8am - 5pm daily.  To reserve please contact the park office at 662-328-2110.                                                             
                                                          



Picnic Area/Shelter
The Park's 50 lakeside picnic sites are equipped with grills. A large pavilion is available by reservation only, providing the perfect spot for a family reunion, company picnic, or church or school outing with a view of Lake Lowndes that is absolutely stunning.  The large pavilion should accommodate close to 70 - 75 people.  For more information or to reserve, please contact the park office at (662) 328-2110.

                 


Amphitheater
The amphitheater is located in a beautiful setting behind the Multi-sports center. This area can be rented as a picnic shelter or can be used as the perfect place for concerts, etc.



Marina Reservations
The marina is located at the boat launch area. It accommodates 20 people inside and about 30 people outside. It has kitchen counter space, refrigerator, and sink. It is great for parties and family gatherings. The marina pavilion is available by reservation only. For more information please contact the park office at (662) 328-2110.

 

Nature Trail                          
After stuffing yourself at a picnic, you can walk off the calories along a scenic nature trail. Hike rocky ridges or smell the flowers along shaded forest paths. Lake Lowndes offers a variety of trails to accommodate everyone from the recreational walker to those training for the marathon. The Opossum Nature Trail is covered in different species of plants and trees, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. 

A 3.5 mile nature trail winds through the backside of the park, providing a close look at native birds, plants and wildlife. If you wanted to keep hiking once the trail ends, hike down the park road towards the end of the park to make your hike 5.6 miles.

Playground
Playground equipment is also available at the Park.  It is located in the day use area of Lake Lowndes.  It features swings, slides, jungle gyms, outdoor basketball goal and volleyball net, and much more!



Playing Fields
The softball complex consists of three lighted fields that are available to the public to rent by the hour. 

 

Tennis and Walking Track
The tennis complex features six lighted tennis courts for day or night play. A quarter mile walking track is located on the sports complex near the tennis complex.  The track is designed for the leisure walker, the high-speed walker, the jogger, and the runner.  Four laps around the track will equal one mile.

              

 

Fishing, Boat Launching, and Water skiing
Lake Lowndes offers 150 acres of freshwater fishing and water sports. The lake is well stocked with catfish, crappie, bass, and bream. A Mississippi fishing license is required for all persons between the ages of 16 and 65. Licenses may be purchased at the park office for a nominal fee.  There is a daily fee to bank fish at Lake Lowndes or you may purchase an Annual Bank Fishing Permit at the park office.

Lake Lowndes offers 150 acres of freshwater for fishing and water sports. A boat launch is available for persons with their own boats.  There is a daily boat launching fee or you may purchase an Annual Boat Launch Permit at the park office. 

Water skiing is permitted on Lake Lowndes - weekends and holidays ONLY.

       

 

Laundry Facilities
Laundry facilities are available inside the Campground Bath House. 

 

Disc Golf
Lake Lowndes offers an 18 whole disc golf course that wind through the pines and over the beautiful hills. Disc course is open to the public, free of charge; however, the normal entrance fee is required. Discs can be rented or purchased at the park office.  For all the Disc Golf lovers, make sure you stay updated about the disc golf tournaments that are being held at Lake Lowndes by the web or call the park office at (662) 328-2110. The Whispering Pines Disc Golf Course is apart of the Southern National Disc Golf Association.

Attention Disc Golf Lovers:  We have a NEW 18 whole Disc Golf Course undercontruction here at Lake Lowndes State Park; therefore, we will have two (2) 18 whole courses.  It will begin behind the Multi-Sports Center, wind through the pines near the cabins heading towards the oaks near the walking track.  Then it will move towards the beautiful pines and the open field near the front entrance into the park and wind back to the Multi-Sports Center. 

As of the beginning of January 2010, the new disc golf course is about halfway finished with the hardwork of the volunteers.  We will keep you informed and updated on the development of the new course, so please keep checking back!

ATTENTION   Make sure you stop by the Multi-Sports Center before you hit the course.  We just received a new shipment of Innova  and Discraft Discs, Bags, and Straps on Monday, December 28, 2009!
