The first alligator hunting season in Mississippi was initiated in 2005. Alligator hunting permits are limited. Currently there are 2 open zones of the state that allow alligator hunting on public waters (1) the Pearl River/Ross Barnett Zone and (2) the Pascagoula River Zone. All permits are issued by a computer based lottery. Also there is a private lands alligator hunting season. Currently there are 13 counties open to limited alligator hunting.
